The Live Oak Fair & Family Drum Night

Brett and two of the engineers he works with were judging an egg drop competition at the Live Oak Fair last night so Houston and I tagged along. Houston had a great time. He's not quite old enough to ride the rides yet but he really enjoyed all of the animals. His Pappy Tom and Lee Ann gave him a wind up peep when they were here recently and Houston still gets all excited about his little peep hopping along the living room floor. When he saw that tub full of live baby peeps last night I thought he was going to go crazy. He got sooooo excited ... it was really cute. He even tried to climb over the little fence they had up in the exhibition hall to get closer to the peeps.
Tonight we took him to Family Drum Night at Studio Percussion (www.studiopercussion.org) in Gainesville where he goes to the Kids Love Drums class. It's pretty neat. They have all the big drum sets inside and outside in the courtyard area they have all the big marching drums set up for everyone to bang on. Some pretty good guitar players were there too and they had a little jam session that we all really enjoyed. Sounded very Jimmy Hendrix. Houston danced and ran around with his drumsticks beating on every drum he could find until he discovered there was pizza. I don't know who had more fun, Houston running around being the little drummer boy or all the people there that couldn't stop talking about how cute he was running around being the little drummer boy. He's definitely taking to the drum thing which I think is pretty cool. Brett and I both love drums and we try to teach ourselves to play our Doumbek but never stick with it consistently. When I finally stop being pregnant off and on for several years I plan to get back into Bellydancing and it would be so great if Houston could be my drummer!
